What are some examples of materialism in the great gatsby?

hmm I had to read that book a couple months ago for a cl also. Some examples of materialism might include for example how Daisy Buchanan decides between an empty marriage with her husband Tom and Jay Gatsby, her love interest. She chooses Tom even though he doesn't make her truly happy.
